Iziko Lam takes Alex adults back to their younger years
Iziko Lam Projects and Productions hols an elderly playday outing in Alex remind people of their younger self.
More than 400 people were in attendance for a community sports event in which adults played the childhood games that they had missed out on as youngsters.
The event was initially intended for participants 35 years and older, however, the organiser saw the need to include the youth because it involved playing friendly indigenous games.
Organiser Nomveliso Mthini, founder of Iziko Lam Projects and Productions, said she noticed a need for adults to let loose. This was because she felt they were the most neglected people in society despite shouldering numerous responsibilities such as taking care of children and working hard to earn money for their families.
“I am one of the people who never played as a child because my circumstances back then didn’t allow me to do so. So this event was intended for those who grew up like me to have fun and feel young again.
“This event was an opportunity to transport them back to their younger selves where only playing and being young was their sole responsibility,” Mthini said.
One of the attendees Zanele Kowa said the event was a wonderful idea as it took her back to her youth. Kowa said she fell pregnant at a young age and never had the time to play after giving birth
“This event helped me to re-awaken my childhood memories and a part of me that had perished,” Kowa said.
The event was in partnership with Art Smart Africa, Mzansi Youth Creatives, SBK Gym, Matlakala Motaung Foundation, Cathca and Alex FM.
