Appointment of Alex SAPS spokesperson still in pipeline

The Alexandra police station is still in progress of the appointment of the new station spokesperson.

There has been no replacement for the spokesperson of the Alex SAPS since the departure of Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha more than a year ago.

The Alexandra Police Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela said they were in the process of training a new person to take over the role.

When questioned about the high crime in Alexandra, Magudulela said they were doing their best to lower the crime rate. She added her officers constantly patrolled the streets to pre-empt any form of crime being planned.
Also, the brigadier said some of her officers have volunteered to constantly monitor London Road, which she described as a hotspot, early in the mornings during peak hour traffic to curb incidents of crime.

Magudulela said her officers were also getting assistance from the patrollers and added that since their appointment, the station was beginning to notice a significant reduction in crime numbers.

She said Alex had a significant drug problem and the community and parents were concerned about the children who used drugs but the fight to eradicate the scourge was ongoing.

She advised residents to report any crime they witnessed in the community as this would contribute significantly to lowering crime.
