Ngwenya confirms abundance of Batho Pele spirit at clinic in Alex

Ward 107 councillor Floyd Ngwenya urges ward residents to stand up and fight the drug scourge that is ravaging the youth to save them for posterity.

Ward 107 councillor Floyd Ngwenya has confirmed the abundance of the ‘Batho Pele’ [people first] spirit at the 4th Avenue Clinic in Alexandra.

Speaking at the commemoration of World TB Day at the clinic, Ngwenya said it was important that where things were being done correctly, ‘we should have the courage to applaud and acknowledge that we encourage those behind the institution not to deviate but continue on that path’.

Ngwenya said if people were not acknowledged and appreciated for their good deeds, this would kill the good culture and spirit of that institution. “We, therefore, need to constantly applaud them so they don’t fall off the tracks, but stay rooted.”

He was echoing the words of a TB survivor and Helen Joseph Hostel resident Selina Nkuna, who heaped praises on the clinic for the kind treatment she received when she was diagnosed with TB a few years back, and she diligently took her medication and healed.

Nkuna praised the nurses and administration staff for always serving her with a smile and putting the ‘Batho Pele’ principle at the forefront of all their dealings with patients all the time.

“I commend all the staff members involved to always keep up the good spirit and make our ward clinic to be a shining example of how patients should always be treated at public institutions,” Ngwenya added.

Ngwenya also urged the community to stand up and be counted in the fight against drug abuse that was ravaging the youth. “We need to fight this scourge and ensure we save our youth, who happen to be our future leaders.”
