Following the publication of the ‘Community lauded for looking after tanks’ article in Alex News for the week ending January 27, the Alexandra Water Sanitation and Environment Community Forum has been inundated with requests for more water tanks in the community.

This was disclosed by the forum secretary general Thabo Mopasi who told Alex News that the publication of the article had triggered an overwhelming response from the community wanting more water tanks installed at various centres.

In the article, Mopasi actually lauded the community for looking after the tanks which were installed during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the protocols and drive for handwashing in an effort to slow down the infection and rate of the transmission of the virus.

Heineken and the National Department of Water and Sanitation joined forces to roll out the water tanks in various communities and Alexandra was one of them.

“Since the publication of this story, I have received an outpouring of messages from various sectors of the community, including schools requesting assistance to acquire and have the water tanks installed.

“They feel the tanks can also play a major role in the drive not only against the pandemic but also ensuring the learners in schools and other community centres would be kept hydrated during the searing heatwave we are experiencing,” Mopasi said.
