Alex community lauded for looking after the Covid-19 water tanks

Thabo Mopasi has also appealed to the Department of Water and Sanitation and its partners to consider empowering the community with plumbing skills so they can maintain the tanks and also respond to water leakages in the township.

The community of Alexandra has received a pat on the back for a job well done for not vandalising the water tanks that have been installed all over the township since the outbreak of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

The pat on the back was given by the Alexandra Water Sanitation and Environment Community Forum’s secretary general Thabo Mopasi, who said the forum would like to thank the community for looking after the hand-washing water tanks that were donated by Heineken, Water Aid, and National Department of Water and Sanitation.

“The water tanks are now serving a double purpose in the community, especially with the current heatwave that is upon us. We hope the community is finding the tanks useful and that they will continue to make use of them as the Covid -19 Pandemic has not left our shores.

“We hope to make more requests to the department and its partners to donate some more tanks and further skill the community plumbing skills for them to be able to respond to scare skills,” Mopasi said.

Mopasi said the plumbing skills will also come in handy in assisting the community where the are challenges of water leakages and spillages, including burst pipes and sewerage blockages.
