Alex Kidz Clinic organises kiddies’ Christmas party

The Alex Kidz Clinic threw a lavish party for some of its children who had been victims of various forms of abuse in the township.

Other children of the community also joined in the festivities that were recently held at the Alexandra Safe Hub on 3rd Avenue. The organiser of the annual event, Elizabeth Mokoena, a social worker that manages the clinic and also acts as the victim support coordinator, said the party aimed to enable the child victims to freely mix with other children.

“This is a form of therapy for them [abused children] as they momentarily forget all the horrors they have gone through in the hope that they may finally find closure and healing,” Mokoena said.

Mokoena expressed her gratitude to the many sponsors that came on board for this year’s party. She said the children realised that not every person out there was an abuser through the support they get from the business community and residents of the township.

“The party not only brings joy and smiles to the children but is also a form of therapy for them as it gives them life skills and we also at the same time assess their coping abilities. It also gives them a sense of hope that there are people outside there who love them.”

The organisations and businesses included Mkhonto Friend of Alex, Sasol Garage in Malboro Drive, Wynberg Chicken, Santa Shoe Box, Mathe Bottle Store, David Restaurant, NuWorld Industrial MeatA-Rama, Liquor Legends Alex, Austin Car Wash, Cho-Christopher Penalbeater, JohnBuli Recycling, and The Ice pub.

“These are the people who heard a cry of a child who was abused and they said #CountMeIn and supported the initiative and made it possible. We at the Alex Kidz Clinic take out hats off to them.”
