Setjwetla flood victims get timely festive food parcels relief

Financial support from the Angel Network of South Africa and the SA Jewish Board of Deputies made the Sibambisene Foundation's food parcel donation possible for flood victims in Setjwetla.

The Alexandra-based Sibambisene Foundation came to the rescue for many struggling households this festive season in the Setjwetla Informal Settlement when it delivered some cheer in the form of food parcels.

The foundation’s secretary general Linda Mbatha described as successful delivery of food parcels to more than 100 families, with 200 children receiving cooked meals.

Some of the food parcels are displayed before being handed over to the recipients.

“This may seem little but to those affected by the recent floods it meant a lot to them as they were destined to spend the festive season without food on their tables and also not knowing where their next meal will come from,” Mbatha told Alex News.

“As we went door-to-door doing inspections in the various households affected by the recent flooding, we discovered a high need for blankets, pre-loved clothes and toiletries, and other needs to help the community cope with the after-effects of the floods,” Mbatha added.

Some of the Setjwetla community members wait to receive their food parcels.

He expressed the foundation’s gratitude to Angel Network South Africa, and the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, both of whom came to the party to secure the donations for the affected Setjwetla residents.

“We would like to humbly extend our gratitude for your willingness and financial support to make the delivery of the food parcels possible,” Mbatha concluded.
