A 13-year-old girl learner at Dr Knak Primary School in Alexandra could be destined for astronomical educational heights after achieving six gold medals at the annual end-of-the-year school awards.
Lilitha Dzova outsprinted all her peers with the six gold medals from nine subjects that she is taking in Grade 7. She achieved gold medals in English, social science, natural science, mathematics, technology, and creative arts.
Lilitha’s exploits were just the cherry on top of her achievements so far, as she has already bagged an educational bursary offer from Curro School in Midrand for the start of her high school education next year.
The lanky Lilitha who towers above her peers was selected for Saturday Classes at Waverley Girls High School by the Alex Education Committee while still in Grade 6.

The committee provides bursaries for tertiary education to the township’s academically talented learners. While at Waverley Girls, Lilitha’s academic prowess was noticed and the committee recommended her to Curro, and the rest is history.
“I am not yet certain of what I would like to study at tertiary when I complete my high school education but I will cross that bridge as time goes on,” Lilitha told Alex News in an interview in the presence of her ecstatic father Elphus Zwane who came from Soshanguve to witness his daughter’s awards.
“I didn’t know she was going to sweep me off my feet with her achievement but I am so overwhelmed and pray that she carries this spirit right to matric,” Zwane said.
Asked for her recipe or muthi for success Lilitha replied, “There is no muthi at all but a simple recipe of a love for reading, learning and listening and respecting my teachers and asking those probing questions like a child that is hungry for education.
“I always try and try and try again until I succeed. I never give up and always push myself to the limit.”
