Alex’s Leap School comes second at Primestars Entrepreneur Awards

Maths and science are taking root in schools in Alexandra as Leap school learners reach second place of at the recent Primestars National Youth Entrepreneurship Awards.

Learners at the Leap Science and Maths School in Alexandra came reached second place in the recent Primestars National Youth Entrepreneurship Awards.

This was for their production of paper coal bricks known as ‘eco log bricks’ using of recycled paper as an alternative instead of the well-known fossil fuel to generate heating power to cook their meals or even heat water for bathing.

Primestars managing director Martin Sweet, and Leap school learners Pule Pabalelo, Annet Ncube, and Adheline Mahori with Kurt Schovell HR executive at Safripol at the awards ceremony.

In an effort to prevent deforestation, the ‘Earth Protectors’, as the Leap team in the project called themselves, identified that street vendors and informal businesses needed affordable heat generation sources that were environmentally friendly.

Learners involved in the project are Pule Pabalelo, Annet Ncube, and Adhelina Mahori and their teacher is Vinolia Manganye.
