Five financially disadvantaged KwaBhekilanga High School girl learners have been offered a helping hand with their make-up for their prestigious matric dance on September 30.
This was from the horse’s mouth, Benilda Fumo, founder of Nilly’s Beauty salon on the corner of 14th Avenue and John Brand Street, who started her beauty therapy company at the age of 16 while still a learner at Alexandra High School.

Fumo (22) said she had picked up the free tab for the five learners after she partnered with NGOs South Africa Partners and Southern Africa Partners to make up the girls in the early morning of September 30 before they head to the dance.
“This will be my first of many more charity events to come. I was inspired by my mom who constantly reminds me of the adage that says ‘blessed is the hand that giveth than the one that receives.

“I took this to heart and decided to put up a post on Facebook, looking for disadvantaged girls that I could help in one way or the other. This was picked up by Amukelani Macheke of South Africa Partners who then connected me with the five girls at KwaBhekilanga,” Fumo told Alex News in an interview.
She said she hoped to expand her charity work. “I will not forget my old school as well,” added Fumo, who is a qualified beauty therapist and received a qualification as an international make-up artist from the Hydro International College in Edenvale.

For their part, the five girls expressed their gratitude to Fumo for the make-up opportunity so they too could be as beautiful as their peers at the matric dance.
