Thando Khumalo’s ‘killer’ remanded in custody

The man who allegedly shot and killed Sandtonview High School learner Thando Khumalo at close range after a chase following a road rage incident on August 28 has been denied bail in the Alexandra Regional Court.

The suspect that allegedly shot and killed Sandtonview High School learner Thando Khumalo has finally been arrested and appeared in the Alexandra Regional Court on September 14.

The suspect, who is well-known in the social circles of the township, was denied bail and remanded in custody to appear again in court on September 28.

Thando (20), a Grade 11 learner was returning to his home in Tsutsumani Village in the early morning of August 28 from a night out with six of his friends when he met his tragic death on the corner of 12th Avenue and Hofmeyr Street.

According to Thando’s father, Sipho Masebe, a seasoned Alex actor and businessman, the murder of Thando resulted from a road rage incident when the suspect and boys exchanged words over a nasty driving incident with another motorist.

Sandtonview High School learner Thando Khumalo was shot and killed in Alex on August 28, allegedly after a road rage incident.

The suspect is alleged to have pulled out a gun and when the boys realised he was armed, they jumped out of the car they were travelling in and ran away. The suspect apparently gave chase and caught up with Thando and shot him in the back of the head.

Thando died on the spot while one of the boys was badly injured in the leg and is still in the hospital. Thando was buried at the Waterval Cemetery in Midrand on September 3 following a memorial service at his school on September 1.
