Learners from various schools in Alex march against violence and injustice

The learners march advocates for important social issues such as violence and injustice while inspiring their peers to speak out on those issues.

Learners from various schools in Alex recently marched from Thusong Youth Centre to 83 Rivonia Rd in Sandhurst to shine the spotlight on critical social issues affecting the youth in South Africa.

This initiative aimed to encourage young people to stand up against pressing social issues such as human rights violations, substance abuse, domestic violence, and the fight against HIV/Aids.

Learners from various schools in Alex march in the streets of the township to Sandhurst in a fight against violence and injustice.

Participants of the march conveyed a powerful message about the need for social cohesion and empowerment, reminding South Africa of the sacrifices made during the struggle for democracy.

Their mission was not just to raise awareness but also to inspire change within their neighbourhoods by emphasising the importance of education and mentorship among young individuals.

March organiser Ethan Madula expressed the urgency of addressing these ongoing issues. “As young people, we have to change our township to be a better place and help other children speak out about violence and injustice.

“We are not happy to see our friends struggling and losing their lives to senseless acts of violence,” Madula said.

The march highlighted key themes such as human rights and trafficking, substance abuse awareness, educational initiatives, and promoting social cohesion.

March organiser Ethan Madula believes that by raising awareness, they can inspire their peers to take action and cultivate a sense of responsibility in the community.

By addressing these topics, the organisers sought to equip their peers with valuable insights, essential skills, and a deeper understanding of the societal issues that impact their lives.

Madula elaborated on their mission. “Our goal is to educate, enrich, and empower underprivileged youth through holistic programmes and mentorship.

“We believe that by raising awareness, we can inspire our peers to take action and cultivate a sense of responsibility in our community,” Madula said.
