Gauteng SAPS mum on the investigation into Alex businessman’s murder

Seven months since the fatal shooting of Alex businessman Mpho Stanley Motsumi and the cops are no where near to arresting his killers.

It’s been seven months since the brazen shooting in the streets of the East Bank section of Alexandra of the founding co-shareholder of Alex Mall, Mpho Stanley Motsumi, and Gauteng SAPS doesn’t seem to be any closer to finding those responsible, or if they are spokesperson Lt Col Mavela Masondo isn’t sharing.

Masondo has not responded to questions from Alex News on the latest state of the investigation into the death of the businessman, who was gunned down in a hail of bullets from AK47s by a group of occupants of a Toyota Quantum on February 28 between 12:00 and 13:00.

Masondo was first given the request for an update on the investigation on August 16 and quickly responded, asking the publication to speak to Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, who was texted on the same day but only responded on August 23 after a follow-up message, asking for a date of the incident which was immediately given.

Sibeko responded and said he would get back to the publication but came back with a message that referred the newspaper back to Masondo. Masondo was then texted for a response on the investigation in which it was indicated to him that Sibeko had referred the newspaper back to him.

On August 28, a reminder was sent to Masondo which was never responded to, and on September 4 another reminder was dispatched to him, after which he promised to check with the investigating officer. Another reminder was sent on September 9, but no response has been forthcoming.

Alex News had also wanted to know from Masondo if a bounty would be considered for information that could lead to the apprehension of the elusive killers, who also killed Motsumi’s unnamed bodyguard in the process.

Apart from being the founder of Alex Mall, Motsumi was also a long-standing president of the Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce, and was actively involved in the promotion of small township businesses, opening an incubator hub at the chamber offices with various international partners.

Motsumi is also accredited with bringing lasting peace to warring factions of the local taxi industry, Armsta and ATA. This peace has stood, as the two sides have silenced their guns and they now operate peacefully together at Alex Mall.
