Viktor said Nomayini resonates deeply with him, emphasising his mission to raise awareness about the judgments faced by those hustling on the streets.

“I am that guy who’s willing to do Nomayini to get to where I want to go; when I say Nomayini I don’t necessarily mean crime or corrupt ways. I mean I am willing to sell veggies or even become a general worker for me to fund my dreams to reach my goals.

“With this song, I wanted to raise awareness among black communities that as the youth, we must put our pride aside and do whatever it takes to fight for the soft life we so wish for,” Viktor said.

As a proud Xitsonga songwriter, Viktor’s work transcends mere entertainment. Through his music, he passionately preserves and promotes the Xitsonga language and culture, ensuring that rich traditions are accessible to both the community and those outside of it.

“My songs often address contemporary issues faced by the local community, bridging the past with the present and ensuring that our language remains relevant in today’s world.”

Winning the KZN Namuhla Award has had a significant impact on Viktor’s career. “This recognition has not only elevated my profile in the music industry but has also opened doors for new opportunities, such as collaborations with other artists and invitations to perform at prestigious events.
“It serves as validation of my hard work and dedication to my craft, motivating me to continue creating music that resonates with my audience.
Looking ahead, Viktor is set to release his upcoming single Khandashisa on October 15, featuring fellow local artist Lutchor Ispoko. “This single serves as a follow-up to Nomayini, aiming to continue the conversation surrounding community issues and uplift the Xitsonga spirit.”

Viktor offered valuable advice to aspiring artists. “Embrace your voice and story. Invest in honing your craft and be resilient. The music industry is full of difficulties, but persistence is key.

“Stay persistent, learn from rejections and keep pushing forward. One last thing is that you have a great story to tell, use your background and experiences as an inspiration to your music.”
