Elderly mark Mandela Day in grand style

The Itlhokomeleng Old Age Home was filled with happiness as organisations came together to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day, bringing essential donations, and warmth, to the elderly residents.

Itlhokomeleng Old Age Home was abuzz with activity as various organisations and individuals came together to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day on July 18.

The event saw a plethora of donations pouring in for the elderly residents of the home. Food, groceries, blankets, and other essential items were given to the home by various organisations and individuals.

The donations were met with gratitude and smiles from the residents, who were overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to them.

The Itlhokomeleng founder’s daughter, Busisiwe Mathe, said, “it is a great pleasure to have hosted this event for our elderly, especially for those residing at the old age home, because they do not usually experience to be around many people.”

Mathe expressed gratitude to the organisations that brought gifts for the elderly. “It is with immense gratitude that we receive these donations. We are humbled by the kindness and generosity shown by these organisations and individuals.

“It is events like these that remind us that we are not alone in our mission to care for our elderly community members. We are grateful for every single person who has contributed to this event, and we hope that it will inspire others to do the same.”

As the day came to a close, the residents of Itlhokomeleng were filled with joy and gratitude for the kindness shown to them.

They thanked each of the organisations and individuals who participated in the event, acknowledging that they were not forgotten, and appreciated.

Elderly resident, Lorraine Mayisela, said, “I am so grateful for this kindness, it is people like these who remind me that I am not forgotten and that I am still loved. This gesture means so much to me and my fellow residents. We will cherish these donations for a long time.”

Another resident, Dudu Dladla, said, “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Itlhokomeleng for hosting such a wonderful event for us. We had so much fun dancing and celebrating together! It warmed our hearts to see so many people caring for us.

“We felt loved and appreciated, and it was a day we will always remember.”
