Phuthaditjaba Care of the Aged in collaboration with Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu commemorated Nelson Mandela International Day with a unique celebration that shone a spotlight on the elderly.
The event, held at the Mandela House in Alexandra, crowned two deserving community members Motsabeng Mashego and Clara Letsoale as Mr & Miss Mandela.
Phuthaditjaba Care of the Aged founder Linda Twala said the event aimed to recognise the contributions and sacrifices made by Mandela and the elderly in the community.
“We want to acknowledge their valuable role in our society and this celebration is a small token of appreciation. It’s an honour to recognise their dedication and hard work and we hope this will inspire others to follow in their footsteps,” Twala said.
Mr Mandela pageant winner Motsabeng Mashego said, “This is a dream come true! I’m proud to be part of this celebration and honoured to be selected as the crown winner. I’ve always tried to live by Madiba’s values of compassion and kindness, and I will continue to do so.”
The two winners got blankets and buckets with food parcels. But the celebration did not stop there; the event featured shared meals, distribution of food parcels, provision of blankets to all elderly attendees, and manicures for elderly women.
Ntsika Ye Sizwesethu founder Gcina Twala said Mandela Day is a day of serving people as Mandela served South Africans, ensuring that they get their freedom.
“We also provided free haircuts for the top 10 learners of Realogile High School, and party packs for the children, ensuring a joyful experience for the youngest members of our community.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners Kacev Family Library, Adreach Group, Capstone Property Group, MTN, Jesus Cares, Open Diagnostics, KGCF Courier, Broll Property Group, and many more,” Twala said.
