Meta and Digify Africa hosts Digital Career Day

Over 300 young Africans gathered at Sci-Bono Discovery Centre for a Digital Career Day, gaining valuable insight and skills from industry experts, and connecting with tech leaders to shape their future in the digital workforce.

In a step towards building a digitally skilled society in South Africa, Meta and Digify Africa recently hosted a Digital Career Day at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, aimed at inspiring and equipping young Africans with the digital skills necessary for the future workforce.

The Digital Career Day featured a dynamic line-up of speakers and panellists, including industry leaders and experts from Meta, Google, Digify Africa, and other organisations. The event covered themes such as building personal and professional brands, launching careers in tech, and monetising skills and interests.

Digify Africa COO Qhakaza Mohare said, “Partnering with Meta for this Career Day has been an incredible experience; providing young people with direct access to industry experts. We’re proud to be driving positive change in the lives of the youth and empowering the next generation with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the digital economy.”

The event drew in over 300 attendees, including students, content creators, educators, and industry professionals. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with industry experts through interactive workshops, round-table discussions, and networking opportunities.

Meta Southern Africa Region head of public policy Thabo Makenete said, that by connecting young people with established tech leaders and professionals they are empowering them to learn, innovate, and become the shapers of the future.

Sci-Bono Discovery Centre CEO Mfanelo Pat Ntsobi praised the Youth Digital Career Day as a remarkable success, noting the incredible engagement from participants eager to explore the vast opportunities within the digital sector.

“The sessions provided invaluable insights and inspiration, covering topics such as coding, cybersecurity, digital marketing, and artificial intelligence. We are confident that the connections made and knowledge gained will propel young innovators toward a bright future in technology,” Ntsobi said.
