Book uncorks secrets to learning success

Tamanna for Change co-founder and teacher at Hyde Park High School Siyabulela Mokebe shines a light on the often overlooked factors that can make or break a student’s educational journey with his book, The Science of Learning.

As a teacher with years of experience, Mokebe has seen countless learners struggle with their studies despite their best efforts.

Mokebe said the first few chapters of the book delve into psychology, sociology and politics of learning and he gives practical advice to help learners retain more information when studying.

“I’ve noticed that many learners fail – not because they don’t study, but because they don’t understand how memory works. They think education is something they can have or not have without consequences, but with this book I want to show them that it’s not just about them individually.

“Education is crucial for a state’s nation, and if they don’t take themselves seriously, they should at least take education seriously,” Mokebe said.

Mokebe said The Science of Learning book is more than just a theoretical exploration – it is a practical guide to help learners become more intentional and effective in their studies.

With real-world examples and strategies for overcoming common pitfalls, Mokebe shows readers how to use their time more effectively, stay motivated and develop a growth mindset.

“I urge learners to read this book and seriously educate themselves. I also want my colleagues in the teaching fraternity to understand the extent to which they can enable or hinder epistemological access and be conscious of other situational factors that may impact the learning process.”
