Alex author’s new book set to impact young minds

A children's book by South African author Emily Mabasa, Celebrating Our Differences: Embracing My Superpowers, seeks to instil a sense of empathy, compassion, and appreciation for diversity in young readers.

A passionate advocate for representation and inclusivity, Emily Mabasa has published a children’s book: Celebrating Our Differences: Embracing My Superpowers, which is set to impact young minds significantly.

Celebrating Our Differences: Embracing My Superpowers is an educational storybook on a mission to educate young people on the importance of setting healthy boundaries, advocating for inclusiveness and gaining confidence.

Mabasa said she was inspired to write this book by her passion and enthusiasm for representation in society.

The book follows the journey of three main characters, Jabu, Melody, and Gugulethu, as they navigate through their struggles and learn to overcome them. Along the way, they discover the importance of setting healthy boundaries, advocating for inclusiveness, and gaining confidence.

The trio’s valuable lessons are woven throughout the story making it an engaging and educational read for young people.

Mabasa’s goal goes beyond simply educating children.

“I want to inspire young people to be motivated towards achieving their goals. Through this book, I want society to become more open-minded and willing to learn more about disabilities and promote an inclusive, diverse, and safe space for all through storytelling and the reading culture in our communities,” Mabasa said.

Mabasa believes that by educating children on the importance of kindness, individuality, and uniqueness, society can create a more compassionate and accepting world.
