Alex gogos and mkhulus warmed up this winter

The Dis-Chem Foundation believes with each blanket, set of gloves and beanies received by someone in need, the harsh reality of a cold winter became a little more bearable.

The Phuthaditjaba Centre in Alexandra that cares for numerous gogos and mkhulus of the township was among some NPOs that benefited from the Dis-Chem Foundation’s winter warmer blankets, beanies and gloves donation.

The foundation has once again stepped up to brighten the season for thousands of vulnerable individuals across the nation with the launch of its eighth consecutive Blanket+ Campaign. This year, the foundation doubled the number of blankets it distributed to charities and non-profit organisations, from 5 000 to 10 000 and Phuthaditjaba received a share of the 10 000 blankets, beanies and gloves.
The drive was an act of solidarity, with Hot Cares once again joining forces with the foundation for the third year running in support of the Blanket + Campaign.
Reflecting on the campaign, the foundation representative said, “We are thrilled by our commitment and ability to continuously bring warmth and comfort to thousands of underprivileged individuals across the country during the chilly winter months.”

The selected beneficiaries encompass a wide range of organisations, including homeless shelters, children’s homes, old age homes, animal shelters, and soup kitchens nationwide such as Brave Hearts, Humanitarian Empowerment Fund (HEF), Phuthaditjaba and Woodrock Animal Rescue.
“With each blanket, set of gloves and beanies received by someone in need, the harsh reality of a cold winter becomes a little more bearable. There is a growing need for support to impoverished communities who desperately need basic food and shelter, and we aim to bring an element of comfort and care to those who need it most,” the foundation representative added.
