“We received a request from CJC asking for a smartboard and we made a promise to them that they would get it. We are very thrilled to be able to provide this innovative technology to the students of Central Johannesburg College’s Alexandra Campus.

“Our goal is to equip young minds with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world, and we believe that this smartboard will play a crucial role in achieving that goal. We plan to do this for other institutions battling the same issue,” Mgcina said.

The Johannesburg Development Agency CEO Themba Mathibe said, “This smartboard is going to give inspiration and guidance to the institution in terms of the direction that we are moving in as a country, moving towards a digital world.

“As JDA, we will continue to work tirelessly with different communities and NGOs on providing education around careers within the built environment sector in Alex and beyond,” Mathibe said.

CJC acting deputy principal of innovation and linkages Gladwin Matsila expressed the institution’s gratitude for the donation describing the act as a commitment to the educational needs of the youth of Alexandra.

“The smartboard will improve the lives of our young people and I also wish it was donated to all our seven campuses. This smartboard will enable our teachers to deliver more engaging and interactive lessons, which will benefit our students’ learning outcomes,” Matsila said.

“The Alexandra Campus is a formerly disadvantaged institution and most of our learners on this campus are from rural areas, so we need to make sure that the place is habitable and has enough equipment so that they can be able to study. We are training artisans in automotive courses and clothing productions at this campus but our budget is constrained.”

He urged other funders to come on board and assist in changing the lives of young people.
