No surrender until the fat lady sings, vows United Stars boss

If the boys can will all their remaining three games, then we are home and dry, says United Stars coach Sakhile Zulu.

United Stars president cum-coach Sihle Zulu, popularly known by his clan name of Mageba, has vowed not to throw in the towel until the fat lady sings in his fight for promotion in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association’s Promotional League race.

Mageba, whose club was on top of the township football food chain for a big chunk of the league season right into the second stanza, said the race for the championship was still wide open despite a mere three games remaining.

He trails the side that toppled him from the summit, Black Mask, by a mere one point. Mask has 58 points from 25 games while Stars has 57 from 24 games, and third-placed Loyo Stars is tied on 55 points with AmaSkills but is separated by a goal difference of 65 to 31 of AmaSkills.

“It’s going to be a neck-and-neck race to the finish line and whoever has his head first, wins. This is the reason why we’re not throwing in the towel at this stage,” Mageba said, adding that when there were six games left, he encouraged his boys to ensure ‘we win all of them and so far we have won three and another three to go’.
“If we win all the remaining three, we will be crowned champions,” said Mageba, who holds the advantage of a game in hand over his Mask rivals. “I am not scared of any team that stands in my way to the championship.”

Mageba said all he had to do now was to ensure he prepared his boys well for the final onslaught and take one match at a time. He takes solace from the fact that this time around in the promotional league, it’s not him but the boys who want to win the league.

“I am buoyed by the mere fact that the boys set their target as opposed to the previous years where I had to say we should endeavour to win. If this time around it’s them that want it more, then our chances of being crowned champions are much higher.”
Mageba said the boys just need to concentrate to achieve their goal and ensure they win all the remaining three games and ‘we’re home and dry’.
