No bounty but cops need help on Alex businessman’s murder

SAPS is not eager to issue a bounty on the heads of the killers of Alex businessman Mpho Stanley Motsumi who was gunned down on February 28.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) needs help with information that could lead to the tracking down of the killers of Alex businessman Mpho Stanley Motsumi.
Motsumi (60) was a founding co-shareholder of Alex Mall and a long-standing president of the Greater Alex Chamber of Commerce (Galxcoc). He and his unnamed bodyguard were killed in a hail of bullets on February 28 this year, in the East Bank section of the township by unknown men driving a Toyota Quantum.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said police investigations into the murder were ongoing.
“We would gladly welcome anyone with information that might assist us in the investigation or tracking the killers to approach the nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
On the possibility of the SAPS considering the posting of a bounty on the head of the killers, Masondo was non-committal as he preferred not to comment.
At the time of his death, Motsumi had been the president of Galxcoc for many years and ran numerous projects to assist aspiring business people in the township. He focused mainly on unemployed youth and helped them with the drafting of business plans, held business incubation sessions and allowed them free use of the chamber’s Wi-Fi facilities for business-related matters.
He was accredited with bringing peace to the taxi industry’s warring Armsta and ATA members.
