Cops whisk away referee at Alexandra Stadium

Alex referee is pulled out of a match by two cops accompanied by a young woman who came to point him out.

The drama unfolded at Alexandra Stadium on March 24 when police officers descended on the Socca Dream and Amaskills United match just before kick-off and whisked away one of the assistant referees.

Two police officers accompanied by a young woman, who was constantly on the phone, pointed out the person they wanted and whisked him away from the stadium to the amazement of the crowd. The games turned out to be the least exciting thing for both the spectators who had come to watch the game and the players who had already lined up on the pitch ready, for kick-off.

One of the officials of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association told Alex News that it was a ‘personal matter between the referee and the young woman that happened back home’.

One of the three referees assigned to the match had to fetch the referee’s bag from the locker room to hand it back to him. The match, which had been scheduled to kick off at 13:00, was delayed and finally kicked off 25 minutes late as the senior referee had to intervene to try and clarify what was happening.
