Lukhanyo passes with flying colours

When the Lukhanyo Wellness Programme first received the 100 learners, they were told they were the worst performers but today they have bachelors in their midst, some with several distinctions.

The Lukhanyo Wellness Programme that runs at KwaBhekilanga High School to assist learners with improving their marks on the road to matric examinations recently celebrated their top achievers with an awards ceremony.

Speaking at the awards, the programme’s operations director Samuel Matumba, himself a former Class of 2014 matriculant at KwaBhekilanga, said the programme had passed what it set out to do with flying colours.
Matumba said the programme ropes in 100 learners every year and only the best 25 are selected for the top achiever awards though all of the learners graduated and were certificated for being part of the programme.

He said the 25 learners who attend the awards ceremony are selected based on their achievements and commitment to the programme but all 100 in the programme are given assistance as they apply for further education and bursaries.
“When the school handed you guys to us, we were told you were the worst performers in class for a variety of reasons, but I am happy to announce that in our midst today, we have bachelors and some with several distinctions.

“That alone is testimony enough for the work the Lukhanyo Wellness Programme has done to change your mindset and the seed it has planted in you as the future leaders of this country in the various aspects of its day-to-day life.
“When we received you, we noticed the negatives and misgivings you had about the programme but I can safely say today that we have passed with flying colours in our endeavour to turn your situation around,” Matumba said.

Neo Ntanjana, Gauteng Voter Registration Ambassador and guest speaker at the awards urged all learners who have turned 18 to register to vote on the IEC’s online registration platform.
“If you want to make the change you are yearning for, you have to be registered to vote otherwise you will forever keep complaining on the sidelines,” Ntanjana said.
