Yanda Cosmetics wins big at Nedbank YouthX Awards
Alex-based skincare company wins big at the Nedbank YouthX Awards for 2023.
The Nedbank YouthX Awards for 2023 were held recently and one of the big winners was Ayanda Majola (23), a resident of Alexandra and future medical scientist who is doing her third year of a four-year course in medical science at Vaal University of Technology.
Majola entered her skincare company Yanda Cosmetics when she saw an article in www.alexnews.co.za calling on Alex youth to join the 2023 Nedbank YouthX Awards to unlock the next generation of leaders through the YouthX Award.
Little did Majola know that she would walk away from the awards with a bronze medal and R50 000 that she would plough back into her company as she continues her dream journey of growing Yanda Cosmetics, which was founded in March 2021 as an online-only trading company that operates from her Alex family home just behind the Alex Mall, into a force to be reckoned with in the beauty and skincare industry.
“I saw the article on the Alex News website and decided to enter and little did I expect a windfall from it as I was just trying my luck. There were 10 of us who were shortlisted for the awards held at Constitution Hill with the main award of R125 000 going to Wihan Joubert and the second prize to Nthabiseng Msingatha,” Majola said.
Majola’s struggles with sensitive skin became a major driving force for her establishment of a niche cosmetics company that manufactures products for people with sensitive skin. Her younger sister battled with eczema and this further fuelled her burning ambition and she finally established Yanda Cosmetics operating from her Alex family home just behind the Alex Mall.
The Alex-born Majola harbours ambitions of growing her company and making her products easily available in retail stores and other outlets. However, the products are currently available at Take-A-Lot, Zando and Makro but still online.
