Jilted lover sets shacks and house on fire

Winter season is a busy time for Alex philanthropists as they are called for help here and there, left, right and centre, says community worker Linda Twala.

Philanthropists have a handful to deal with during the winter fire season and it was no exception for the township’s foremost community worker Linda Twala.

Since the start of the winter season in June, Twala and other philanthropists in the township have been busy moving from one fire incident to another laden with clothing items, blankets, sponge beds and food items for the victims.

When Alex News visited Twala on a different matter, the newshounds found him running helter-skelter with his assistants and a full bakkie load ready to move out of the comfort of his home on a mission to go and assist fire victims in 11th Avenue.
“Winter is a very busy season for us as community workers as we are called here and there, left right and centre, to respond to the needs of community members in a crisis and it never ends,” he said.

When the newshounds arrived, Twala had just answered a call for assistance from fire victims on 11th Avenue where five houses and surrounding shacks had been burnt by a fire believed to have been started by a jilted girlfriend.
The lovebirds are said to have argued fiercely after which the girlfriend was said to have set the man’s shack in the yard on fire, which then quickly spread to the other shacks and the main house.

This is said to have happened over the weekend of June 24 and no one was injured in the fire but occupants of the house and shacks lost all their possessions such as blankets, clothing, food items, and IDs in the fire.
