Ma Afrika FC staged a dramatic last-minute smash-and-grab act during its Johannesburg Men’s Regional League game against 10-man Wolfs FC at the Alexandra Stadium.

The last-minute winner came only a few minutes before the referee blew his whistle for full-time. ‘AmaVenda’, as the side is popularly known in football circles in the township, grabbed all three points in their endeavour to survive for another season in the league.

Ma Afrika’s forwards seemed to have forgotten their striking boots at home as they wasted a number of scoring opportunities that could have easily resulted in a couple of goals than the solitary smash-and-grab.
Wolfs’ Mbuti Langa was given a yellow card for rough play just before the halftime break and both sides headed for their respective dressing rooms deadlocked at 0-0 when the second stanza resumed, it was the same old story of missed chances from both sides.

Midway through the second stanza, Langa got his marching orders for an early shower after receiving his second yellow and his departure seemed to spur on the ‘AmaVenda’ side as it upped its game in search of the opener and a potential winner of the game.

This relentless pressure on the visitors finally paid off when Ma Afrika finally put one into the back of the net with minutes to go before the final whistle. The same scorer of the smash-and-grab almost added a second goal straight from centering the ball for play after his goal.
