WATCH:Criminal activity is no spectacle to marvel at says Alex SAPS commander Brigadier Magudulela

The commander of the Alexandra Police Station Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela has implored members of the community in the township to report any criminal activity of whatsoever nature "so we can build a safe and peaceful society".

Alexandra SAPS commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela has called on the community to work with her members by reporting crimes of whatever nature so they are nipped in the bud.

She was speaking to Alex News following a trending video that depicts a man believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s who alights from his vehicle on one of the busiest roads in Alexandra and pumps several bullets into the air before speeding off.

The video was posted on Twitter on March 9 at about 19:00 and took place on John Brand Street, which is one of the township’s four most busy roads the others being Rev Sam Buti Street, Alfred Nzo Street and Vincent Tshabalala Road.

After close scrutiny of the video with her officers, Magudulela said the video appeared to be a re-post from an earlier incident that might have taken place on New Year’s eve or even a couple of years or so back as it also depicts fireworks in the background.

Even then, Magudulela said, this was no excuse for anyone to flout the rule of law, especially in such a crowded community and busy street, without due consideration of what might happen in the process.

“The hail of bullets he pumped into the air can easily hit bystanders, passers-by, and even land on nearby houses and injure occupants, etc or even trigger a fire if it happens to land on an electricity box on the street or in the house. Together let’s build a safe and peaceful community,” she said.

Urging the community to always report such incidents and practices, Magudulela said they may take it as a spectacle but it may result in their children, family, friends and relatives being injured in the process and at that point, it may not be so entertaining.

“For the Alex SAPS to fight crime effectively, they need the community to be their eyes and ears on the ground. You see a crime being committed or suspicious activity, persons or vehicles, report such incidents as the police cannot be in each and every spot and corner of the street at all time,” she said.
