KwaBhekilanga Sports Ground aerobics exercises take Alex by storm
Due to the overwhelming response to the recent Biokinetics aerobics sessions at Alexandra’s KwaBhekilanga Sports Ground, organisers have decided to turn the programme into a quarterly event.
More than 700 people of all ages and genders answered a call to join an aerobics session at the KwaBhekilanga Sports Ground on February 18.
According to Sbongile Tshabalala of Biokinetics, a health and lifestyle organisation in the township, the event aimed to encourage the township folk to adopt a healthy lifestyle that will help them ward off chronic lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.
The session was powered by Ward 105 councillor Tefo Raphadu, Sanca, the Department of Health, the City of Johannesburg, Alex SAPS, Vumatel, Dlozi’s Car Wash and Silence Inn.
Tshabalala said Raphadu provided the exercise enthusiasts with fruit to help replenish the lost calories as a result of the exercises.
Among the organisations that came to support the first-of-its-kind Biokinetics fitness programme were Run Alex Athletics Club, Fitness Family, the FFT and Health Club of Norwood and the River Park Aerobics Gym.
“After the overwhelming success and support shown to the first-ever programme, we have taken that to heart and hereby announce that we will deliver the aerobics session on a quarterly basis and we have already had a meeting to plan for the next one,” Tshabalala said.
