Cllr Marema urges Ward 116 residents to celebrate within the confines of the law

Councillor Adolph Marema urges residents to celebrate without harming others or vandalising property and infrastructure that they will need when the celebration come to an end.

Ward 116 residents in Alexandra have been implored to learn to celebrate the festive season in a responsible manner and within the confines of the law.

This message came from the first citizen of the ward Councillor Adolph Marema ahead of the festive season in which he wishes fellow residents of the ward to enjoy the festive season in tranquillity and peaceful festive mood and avoid unnecessary disturbance of the prevailing peace and calm.

“We should learn to celebrate without harming others or vandalising property and infrastructure that we will need soon after the celebrations come to an end. Let’s not allow our celebratory emotions to get the better of us and we then do certain things that we would not do under normal circumstances,” Marema warned.

Marema, who is the chief whip of the councillors in Alexandra, said there was nothing wrong about joyful and in a celebratory mood, but that joy and celebration should at all times remain within the confines of the law and democratic principles of not hurting others in the name of celebrating the festive season.

“Our people must look after whatever infrastructure that has been created for them and ensure it protected from harm and destruction. After all, it’s our infrastructure and it’s meant to service us all,” he added.

He called on ward residents to mobilise each other and clean after themselves to ensure their environment was clean and healthy and also learn to be their brother’s keeper by watching over their neighbours and their properties.

“People must report suspicious behaviour and characters that roam their streets to the police but never to take the law into their own hands. Take care of your neighbours and they in turn will take care of you too. Don’t destroy and vandalise in the name of joy.

“Happiness in its entirety is based on the notion that tomorrow is still a day and that whatever you have destroyed during happy times will be needed again tomorrow,” Marema said, urging those that will travel not to drink and drive but to arrive alive.
