The Union of Jewish Women in Johannesburg hosted an end-of-the-year Christmas party for children that attend the Alexandra Aftercare project at the premises of the Lutheran Church on 3rd Avenue.

The party was held on December 2 and the children ranged from five years to 18 and they performed traditional dancing, a play and poems to entertain the parents and elders of the church and executives and staff of the union.

UJW chairperson Ingrid Koor and Phati Mgutshini of Alex Aftercare hand out the certificates.

The party also included children who receive food from the Alex Feeding Scheme who have their lunch and also stay for the afternoon in a safe environment to do their homework, read and do arts and crafts.

Children that attend regularly received certificates of attendance and others for volunteering while some were recognised for their dedication in doing their homework. “We thank our generous sponsors, both corporate and private, for their donations of toys, gifts, cupcakes and food,” said the union project manager Vanessa Weltman.
