Alex legend gives back to the community as part of 67 minutes

Balalaika Hotel and Mercedes-Benz remember the Mandela Heritage Museum on Mandela Day.

Linda Twala, a renowned philanthropist, collaborated with Mercedes-Benz to honour Mandela Day by organising a breakfast drive for the Alex community.

The breakfast drive took place at Nelson Mandela Heritage Museum, and started with a tour guided by Bab’Twala. “This place was named after Mandela because he stayed in this area when he first arrived in Alex,” Bab’Twala told the guests. He also showed the guests where Mandela used to stay.

For breakfast, the grannies of the community were served porridge by members of non-profit organisation South Africa Partners, and sandwiches, juice and fruit were served to the children by members of Mercedes-Benz.

Mbali Sibiya, an Alex crafter said, “I am also helping to facilitate 67 minutes of the Mandela Day. This is an initiative from Bab’Linda Twala together with Mercedes-Benz to give back to the community.”

Later, employees of the Protea Hotel by Marriot Johannesburg Balalaika honoured their 67 minutes by painting and cleaning the museum.

Tessa Holbel, the quality compliance and training manager at the hotel said, “We decided as the hotel to come and clean the heritage museum as it is a tourist attraction in Alex and it is very important for children to know that the building is part of their heritage.”
