KB’s remains arrive home on July 24

The body of the late young and talented soccer player Kabelo 'KB' Masalesa, who died in a drowning incident in Palestine where he and five other U13 players from Alex and 14 of their compatriots from Cape Town had gone on a week-long soccer development trip, will arrive back home on July 24.

The body of the late Kabelo ‘KB’ Masalesa, an U13 player who sadly passed away on July 17 while on a soccer development trip to Palestine will arrive back home in Alexandra on July 24.

This was confirmed by the secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Malvin Khumalo, who had accompanied the boys on the trip, but remained behind with a member of the family, Alfred Mamabolo, who flown there and is an uncle to the late KB.

The rest of Kabelo’s five teammates in Alexandra, along with the other 14 members of the squad that travelled to Palestine from Cape Town, touched down in South Africa on July 22, without their favourite nimble footed and ace midfielder they best knew as KB.

As head of delegation, Khumalo told Alex News he had remained behind to help the family secure the body of KB and ensure it is repatriated back home. “We have since moved from Palestine to Jordan and we should be able to land back home on July 24,” Khumalo said.

KB, one of the talented boys on the trip who is an U13 player for Black Poison, is said to have drowned in a pool in the afternoon of July 17 after the boys returned from a soccer session and decided to cool off with a swimming stint.

The Alex youngsters were selected from a Free Palestine Solidarity Football Tournament that was held in Alexandra early this year by the Embassy of the State of Palestine and involved U13 teams from the township.
