Alex’s young businessman received a mobile kitchen
Coca-Cola South Africa recognises Alex's fledgling companies and offers them limitless opportunities.
Bothlale Baily, the founder of Baily’s Restaurant in Alex received a mobile kitchen on June 22.
The handover was done by Coca-Cola South Africa, in partnership with South Africa Day and the We Love Alexandra Community Makeover Project. Baily’s is a fast-food eatery that has been voted second best Kota brand in Gauteng.
“We are currently running a competition programme with the Department of Economic Development whereby we ask young people in business to send us their business pitches so they can also win as Baily’s did.
“The competition is for this Youth Month, and we urge the youth in Alex to look out for such opportunities,” said public affairs, communication, and sustainability manager at Coca-Cola, Pirtunia Dhlamini.
Baily said, “We have to give thanks to people like Bab’uTwala [Linda Twala] who are community leaders and who always push themselves the extra-mile to make sure youth businesses and businesses in general here in Alex are given opportunities like this, to be able to interact with corporates like Coca-Cola.”
Baily said they would position the mobile kitchen at a different location to extend their reach and serve a new community. He also added that the mobile kitchen would help the community by creating job opportunities. “When Baily’s does good, the Alex community also does good.”
Dhlamini said their journey with Baily’s didn’t end here, as the company would appoint a mentor for Baily to make sure he gets the necessary skills for running a business.
Alex philanthropist, businessman, and community builder Twala said he was convinced this project would go a long way in helping small businesses to grow and at the same time reduce the alarming crime in the area.
“Here I see people who will be changing the lives of the people in Alex, as this is something that will uplift the community. I would love to appeal to our youth to stop using drugs as they are our next future leaders and community members,” he said.
