Alex commemorates World Environment Day by a clean-up

Alex participates in World Environment Day as Bombela Operating company helps them clean the Gautrain station.

Bombela Operating Company organised a clean-up campaign at Gautrain’s Marlboro station to commemorate World Environment Day.

Bombela’s corporate communications manager Prevashni Naidu said the day, commemorated on 5 June globally, is the biggest international day for environmental awareness, and Bombela Operating Company colleagues joined contractor Blue Sage in a much-needed clean-up operation around the Marlboro station.

“This year, World Environment Day was commemorated under the campaign slogan ‘Only one Earth’, with the focus on ‘Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature’, Naidu said
“As an organisation operating in this community, it is our intention to not only pursue sustainable operations but to address issues such as waste pollution which contributes significantly to the ongoing environmental crisis we face globally.

“Comprising a clean-up team of community and company representatives, the day was well spent cleaning up an area around the station.

“As a community-based organisation, it is our goal to not only pursue sustainable operations but also to solve issues like waste pollution, which contributes to the worldwide environmental crisis.

Ntombi Mazibuko, a roster clerk at the company, said, “I live here in Alex at Ext 7 and it was such a lovely experience to come as a company and clean our neighborhood just to show awareness that we are here for the people and would support them if they need anything.”

She said the clean-up will be done continually as there are a lot of programmes that the company hopes to do for the community.
