Alex learners find human skeleton under mobile classroom

M.C. Weiler Primary School learners find a dead body under mobile classroom while looking for soccer ball.

The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed that learners from M.C. Weiler Primary School in Alexandra discovered what is alleged to be a human body underneath a mobile classroom within school premises on June 2.

This unsettling discovery was made during school break between 11:00 and 11:30 when learners reportedly went to fetch a soccer ball that was underneath the Grade 5A mobile classroom. The learners reportedly identified their discovery as a human skeleton and immediately informed their educators.

Subsequently, the school’s management contacted the police and released learners at 13:00 to allow police officials to conduct necessary investigations.

Police officials inspected the scene and the learner’s discovery was confirmed to be a human skeleton. The body was then removed from the scene and police indicated that an inquest case will be investigated accordingly.

The Gauteng Department of Education has dispatched its Psycho-Social Unit at the school to provide counseling and trauma support for all affected learners and staff.

“While we await further reports from the police regarding this matter, learning at the school will continue with necessary psycho-social support,” said MEC of education, Panyaza Lesufi.
