Taxi drivers allegedly rape a 17-year-old

The suspects are still at large and police investigations into the incident continue.

Alex police are still tracking down the suspects in connection with the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl inside a Toyota Avanza minibus taxi on May 14.

Alex Police Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela said, “The victim reported that it was about 16:00 and she had visited a friend and they started drinking alcohol. Later at around 17:00 the grandmother of the friend sent them to the spaza shop.

“On their way to the shop, a Toyota minibus taxi stopped with two adult males inside. They dragged the victim [and the friend] into the taxi and they drove away with both of them.”

She added while the taxi was in motion, the friend jumped out leaving the victim with both men. “The victim alleged that one of the men forced her to drink a bottle of whisky, and they stopped on 2nd Street where taxis park overnight. They undressed her and raped her.”
