Mourners gather in Sankopano Community Hall in Alexandra to bid farewell to former City mayor

Sores of mourners converge in Alexandra to pay their last respect to former Mayor in the City of Johannesburg, Mpho Moerane

Scores of people have arrived at Sankopano Community Hall in Alexandra to bid farewell to the late former Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Mpho Moerane.

Moerane died in Milpark Hospital after he was involved in an accident in Gallo Manor, Sandton on May 9.

Speaking outside the venue where the memorial service is being held, the former speaker in the City of Johannesburg Nonceba Molwele said she was still in disbelief that Moerane was no more.

“I worked with Mpho when he was the mayor for only one month but he proved to be a capable leader. His passing is a great loss not only for his family but for the entire South Africa. We will miss him dearly as a leader and an activist who was committed to serve people of this country, ” Molwele said.

Ward 105 ANC chairperson Tefo Raphadu described Moerane as a leader and mentor who served his people with love and dedication.

” He was not just a comrade to me, he was my brother, my mentor and my leader that I could run to  anytime I needed guidance. We have lost a true and genuine leader who still had a lot to do for our country,” Raphadu said.
