On the morning of May 4, Power Fashion Store at Pan African Mall stopped trading after nine workers collapsed while on duty.
“The store experienced load-shedding around 08:03 and that time I had gone to Alex Mall as we were doing a store opening there. On our way back, the centre manager called to inform me that the store is not trading because workers had collapsed in the store,” said Tebogo Mothlathledi, the store manager at Power Fashion.
She said upon arrival they found nine employees on the floor, and the ambulance was already called. Three of the employees were taken to Edenvale Hospital while the other six were taken to Masakhane Clinic.
“We don’t really know what happened because the generator stays at the back and the employees did not move it. When this happened they had switched it on the normal way we usually do, there at the back. At this point, I cannot confirm or prove anything as we are all still unsure of what had happened.”
Mothlathledi said the employees are now feeling better, and after they had finalised their statements they will resume work, except for one employee that is still unwell and will be sent home.
