Alex men urged to join Parys camp

The empowerment workshop will seek to provide men with the necessary tools on how to stand against woman abuse, the qualities of true masculinity, and how to be a champion for change in the men’s sector, among others.

Men in Alexandra have been urged to join a life-changing weekend of adventure and learning in Parys, Free State on April 22 to 24.

The call was made by the chairperson of the Alex Men’s Forum Charles Mphephu, who heads the anti-gender-based violence organisation in the township that works closely with the #NoExcuse movement of the Carling Black Label which seeks to end the abuse of women and children in the township.

Mphephu said there was no cost involved for the men in Alexandra who want to attend the workshop at the Takwasa Youth Camp Centre in Parys. All those interested need to do is to get themselves to the venue – everything else will be taken care of.

“We will provide the #NoExcuse T-shirts, rings and bangles, training material, facilitation, adventure activities, food and accommodation but no under 18s are allowed,” Mphephu said.

He said the empowerment workshop will seek to provide men with the necessary tools on how to stand against woman abuse, the qualities of true masculinity, how to be a champion for change in the men’s sector, and health-seeking behaviour and response to HIV, TB and Covid-19.

“We want to equip men with the right tools to end gender-based violence in the township and country at large and enable men to become champions for change,” he said.

Meanwhile, Carling Black Label celebrates the brand’s 50th award for the quality taste by giving away 50 real gold medals worth R50 000 each that are certified and can be exchanged for cash.

The brand will be hosting 11 main events across Mzansi, where they will be giving away three medals worth R50 000 each guaranteed per event, adding up to a grand total of 33 medals in total.

For gold aspirants in Alexandra, all roads lead to Chillas Lounge at number 816 on the corner of Nzima and Ndabezitha streets in Tsakane on April 16.
