It is alleged that on April 2, two motorists were racing each other in Marlboro next to the driving school grounds, and while attempting to overtake, one car rolled and hit a pedestrian who succumbed to his injuries.

According to Captain Molefe Mogodi of Bramley police, detectives were investigating a case of culpable homicide.

“It is alleged that on Saturday 2 April, JMPD officers were summoned to a vehicle accident scene along Zinnia Drive, near Jumna Crescent in Marlboro Gardens. They found a damaged silver Toyota Avanza with no driver inside on their arrival.

“It was reported to the police that the driver ran away immediately after the accident. There was a person [pedestrian] who sustained injuries, allegedly as a result of the accident when the vehicle hit him.

“The police summoned the Emergency Medical Services to attend to the severely injured pedestrian. The 26-year-old man reportedly succumbed to his injuries and was taken to a government mortuary,” Mogodi said.

He said it was later discovered that the driver of the Toyota Avanza who left the accident scene had gone to Alexandra Police Station to report the accident.
The motorist was not arrested but detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.

Anyone who might have witnessed the accident is urged to call the following numbers: Detective Sergeant Seweya 078 835 7036;
