Champaign bottles on hold as war rages on for Malandela

Malandela still has two more hurdles to overcome before they can pop Champaign bottles to mark their promotion.

Malandela Mighty Heroes still has some battles on the cards to fight despite winning one of the four streams of the SAB League in the Safa Joburg Region.

According to Malandela coach Vincent ‘Young Master’ Rammoni, winning this stream of the league means his team will have to battle three other teams who are winners of their respective streams in what is called the Top 4 competition.

From the Top 4 competition, the battle shifts to the provincial stage for the championship that pits three teams against each other which come from the three regions in Gauteng, those being Safa Ekurhuleni, Safa Pretoria and Safa Johannesburg. After these matches, the two teams with the most points will proceed to play in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League. The winners of this championship in the province get promoted to the ABC Motsepe League.

“Yes, we may have won our stream of the league but we still have many more battles to conquer before we can move one notch up the ladder of promotion. We keep our fingers crossed we can overcome these two remaining hurdles and then only can we celebrate victory and promotion,” Rammoni said.

The Young Master, who is also known in local football circles as ‘Pep Guardiola’ after the Manchester City manager in the English Premier League, was not sure when and where the Top 4 competition and the Gauteng Championship would take place as the other streams were still yet to conclude their leagues.
