KwaZulu-Natal woman seeks her mother in Alex

ALEXANDRA – Makhosi Sebenzile Zuma last saw her mother in the 1970s as a young girl and believes she might still be residing in the township.

A woman is looking for her mother, known to her as Kleintjie, who lived in Alexandra in the 1970s on 14th Avenue close to the Jukskei River.

Makhosi Sebenzile Zuma, from KwaZulu-Natal, last saw her mother in the 1970s as a young girl and believes she might still be residing in the township. “I do not know her surname but my mother was known as Gogo Modjadji,” Makhosi said.

She added that Kleintjie used to affectionately call her ‘Mpompo’.

Kleintjie is said to have had a relationship with Makhosi’s late father, John Nomandavu Zuma, who reportedly took Makhosi away from her mother because Kleintjie had a drinking problem. “I have a scar on my face because I had been bitten by a dog while she [Kleintjie] was carrying me in her drunken stupor,” Makhosi said.

John is said to have worked at the then-Sandton Municipality as a security guard and had another wife in KwaZulu-Natal known to Makhosi only as MaNgubane. Kleintjie, who originally came from Limpopo, had a brother called Boi Modjadji.

Kleintjie is said to have been engrossed in an instrument called a storotoro which she used to play – this instrument is also said to have been an interest of many youth members at the time. “I hear Kleintjie was pretty good at the storotoro and she was well known for it.”

Makhosi concluded, “I am pleading with anybody that’s related to these people to contact me, even if she is late and [someone] can help locate her grave and other relatives of hers. I need her in my life, I now have four children and they need to know their maternal family.”
