Londani praised for looking after tank

ALEXANDRA – The volume of traffic to Londani was also a factor because, without the tank, there could have been a huge health disaster.

Londani Lushaka has received a pat on the back for a job well done of looking after its newly installed Jojo tank for safe hygiene purposes.

This came from the donors of the tank, Heineken, who is said to have been delighted with the care for the tank and its usage, which prompted the beer brand to deliver more soap and sanitary towels toward the feeding scheme.

The tank was installed during the height of Covid-19 last year to help the charity institution which feeds 900 children and about 600 adults, most of whom lost their jobs as a result of the outbreak of the global pandemic which reached the South African shores in early 2020.

Speaking to Alex News during the delivery of the soap and sanitary towels donation, assistant director for the water sector support in the Department of Water and Sanitation Shoki Malepe said they received a request to instal the tank due to the number of children and the elderly who come to the feeding scheme.

“As we had a project already going called NGO Water Aid to instal these tanks in community organisations such as this, we came over to inspect the place and discovered that for certain, the tank was urgently needed so that the institution could be Covid-19 compliant in terms of the protocols of constant washing of hands to minimise the transmissibility of the virus.

“The volume of traffic was also a factor because, without the tank, there could have been a huge health disaster. These reasons prompted urgent action on our part, and we then requested our donors Heineken to come to the party and they did.”

Shoki said Heineken were so inspired by the fact that the tank was well looked after and that it was still in the same condition of installation and offered to donate more soap to the feeding scheme.
