Robbery and hijacking leaves man without 30 delivery boxes in Alex

ALEX – The complainant works for a courier company and the suspects are still at large.

Police detectives in Alexandra are investigating a hijacking that left a delivery driver without 32 of the boxes he was supposed to deliver.

According to the Alexandra police spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the complainant said that at about 11:30am on January 25, the complainant was delivering 32 boxes outside number 04-7th Avenue in a white Toyota Hilux GD-6 with registration number JP93MRGP when three men approached him, pointed a firearm at him and demanded the car keys. The suspects then searched him, took the car keys and his wallet which had about R270 in it. They also took his driver’s licence and a bank card before driving off in his car.

“The complainant followed the suspects on foot. He then asked one of the street vendors to lend him a T-shirt so that the suspects would not recognise him. The suspects made a stop on 6th Avenue where they offloaded the boxes and took them to a spaza that was nearby. They then drove off. The complainant then contacted the police, ” explained Mbatha.

Mbatha added that when the police arrived, the complainant showed them where he had seen the boxes being taken to but the police only recovered two boxes instead of 32. The other boxes have not been recovered. The vehicle is worth R300 000 and is fitted with a tracking device. The complainant works for a courier company and the suspects are still at large.
