Alex bedridden Infant receives lifesaving equipment
ALEXANDRA – The donation is part of our corporate social investment programmes in which we support the less fortunate, says Lithole.
A Bryanston company of consulting engineers has donated life-saving equipment to a nine-month-old boy who has suffered from a multitude of medical conditions from birth and is currently dependent on a ventilator to stay alive.
Lidwala Consulting Engineers’ Limuwani Lithole donated a generator to the mother of the bedridden child to help keep the boy’s ventilators running even during power cuts.
The company is busy with a pipe-replacement project in Alexandra which will increase the water flow supply pressure. The township has been beset by constant interruptions of the water supply for many years.
Lithole said his company was working in Ward 105 in December and he bumped into councillor Tefo Raphadu who told him about the child, Gomolemo Lekalakala, and later introduced him to the boy’s mother, Jessica Lekalakala.
The generator can supply power to the ventilator for days of extended power cuts and comes with an extension cord of 20m that will allow the child’s mother to move her child from room to room, depending on where she would like the boy to be at a particular time.
“This is part of our corporate social investment programmes in which we support the less fortunate members of our communities who are in need. If there are learners in need of assistance in whatever way, we will definitely spring to their help,” Lithole said.
