Register your children early, urges Cllr Raphadu

ALEXANDRA – I would hate to see teachers year after year having to deal with the influx of late registrations, says Councillor.

Councillor Tefo Raphadu of Ward 105 was a delighted man during this year’s schools’ opening day as none of the schools in his ward had experienced any form of vandalism, unlike last year.

Raphadu toured all four schools in his ward, two primary and two high schools, those being MC Weiler and Skeen primary schools and East Bank High and KwaBhekilanga high schools.

His trip began at MC Weiler and then to the adjacent East Bank High and Skeen and ended up at KwaBhekilanga. Speaking to Alex News he said, “I am so delighted that all of them are in good condition to welcome learners for the marathon educational year ahead.”

He wished the learners a good year and hoped that their end of year examinations would be better than those of the year ‘we have just buried as we don’t anticipate any Covid-19 stoppages’.

The councillor decried the tendency of parents to wait until the last day before the opening of schools to register their children.

“This year we had no vandalism issues to deal with but the major problem was late registration. This is not on, as teachers can hardly start teaching on the first day of school as they have to still deal with issues of late registrations.

“I would like to urge our parents to ensure they register their children for the new academic year as soon as registration opens online in August.

“That way we can ensure a smooth sailing opening day which will also allow teachers to begin teaching on the same day. I would hate to see them year after year having to deal with the influx of late registrations. It’s not on.”
