ALEXANDRA – Officials of the Department of Basic Education housed at the Thusong Multipurpose Centre come to the rescue of frustrated parents on late registrations.

There was chaos at Ithute Primary School in Alexandra on January 18 when parents led by the EFF demonstrated outside the gates of the school demanding placements for their children.

According to Alex community leader and educational issues monitor in the township, Thabo Mopasi, the chaos lasted for a couple of hours and the demonstrators were told to take their case to officials of the Department of Basic Education who are housed at the Thusong Multipurpose Centre to deal with the issues around late registrations.

“The demonstrators took heed of the advice and moved to Thusong where they were helped and sanity finally returned to the school,” Mopasi told Alex News.

For the past two weeks, Basic Education officials have been based at Thusong sorting out the issues around the late registrations, and at one point when schools opened last week, there was a snaking queue of parents seeking assistance.
