Delivery vehicle robbed in Alex after driver calls customer for directions

ALEX – The items stolen included two cellphones, a Samsung Galaxy A30 and a Huawei P20.

Police detectives are investigating a case of a hijacking that left a delivery driver without a customer’s belongings and company car.

The incident took place on January 4 at about 18:30 along Selborne Street in Alex.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the complainant said he was driving a Nissan NP200, registration number KC 84 GV GP on Selborne Street when he decided to call the customer to ask for directions. The customer then told him that she could see him and he must stop where he was.

“A few minutes later, he saw a man wearing a white T-shirt, light in complexion approaching his vehicle. The man then lifted his T-shirt and showed his firearm. This is when he ordered the complainant to get out of the vehicle. Two more men appeared and they got in the vehicle before driving off,” explained Mbatha.

The items stolen included two cellphones, a Samsung Galaxy A30 and a Huawei P20. The total value of the cellphones is R3 000. The complaint said he did not know the value of the items that were in the vehicle.
